A new journey to undiscovered Armenia

Armenia is a fascinating country with a rich ancient and modern history. A mountainous country where Europe meets the Middle East. We are pleased to announce the start of our journeys on a unique trail on the hidden silk trade and pilgrim routes of Southern Armenia. A journey developed in collaboration with hill villages and the Armenian World Wildlife Fund (WWF)

Nomadic Skies' founder, Gavin Anderson, has worked supporting rural development projects in Southern Armenia for the last 12 years. We were first involved in supporting agricultural and livestock projects in small hill communities but then began to investigate rural tourism. We have uncovered little known trails and hidden villages along ancient pathways and have put together a unique 12 day journey.

This will take us from Yerevan's sophisticated capital, Yerevan, to the hills of Vayots Dzor and Syunik districts and to the simple hill villages where we will be supported and hosted during a trekking exploration. We will use local community rangers to guide us on a hill route with staggering views over soaring Mount Ararat (of Biblical fame) to the habitat of the last big cat of Europe - The Caucasian Leopard. We will then take a 4 day trekking journey through the Vorotan River Gorge staying beside hill communities and hidden 'ghost villages' (ancient villages that were forcibly evacuated during soviet times'. We will pass through natural forest and hill pastures and visit ancient monasteries, cross medieval bridges, find cave-towns and enigmatic prehistoric stone circles and spend time with local communities learning about the stories, legends, recent and modern lives of the Armenian people.

Our first journey is from 20th to 31st May 2020 a time when the mountains will burst into colour with mountain meadow flowers. Find out more and read our full brochure. Contact us about this year's journey or our 2021 journeys to Undiscovered Armenia.
